This project was launched following the story of Canadian teenager Justin Bieber who had been posting his video on YouTube and became famous all over the world as a result. However, the fact that the competition was mostly conducted online took its toll on the project's ratings. Not many people have heard about aTunes, but, unlike Superstar.kz, X-factor and the other national competitions, this contest allowed young artists from CIS countries and Europe to participate.

Actor Anuar Nurpeisov, former KVN player Abzal Garifullin and designer Vladimir Tsoi had come up with the idea of the competition. The guys got support from Almaty city culture administration and a number of sponsors who financed flight and living costs of those finalists who live in the other cities.

The contest itself took place online, but every week a summary was broadcast on "El-Arna" channel. There hosts were presenting contestants who were given opportunity to participate in the finals. Only those candidates who had got the most votes on the website http://atunes.kz were selected to perform in the final show.

It could not go without a small scandal. The third episode of the contest was not aired. Anuar Nurpeisov wrote in his Twitter, "The latest #atunes edition on El-Arna was cancelled because there is @KarimMassimov present there. The idiocy of our TV."

In three weeks of the contest there were more than 300 videos sent in. People were singing while at home, in their offices or at professional studios and were recorded by a camera or even a cell phone. There were real talents among them, but also local freaks, impersonators and even... a finger!

In the end 15 contestants from different cities of Kazakhstan and from other countries were voted to participate in the finals. On the day of the final show organisers together with "Korkem Telecom" company held an online broadcast on atunes.kz website.

Guys from the band Simple Miracle Bauyrzhan Matayev, Zhangir Takenov and Nurbolat Khamitov came from Karaganda. They were the youngest on the project and, according to the guys, aTunes gave them an opportunity to learn from more experienced singers. They compose music and write lyrics for their songs themselves. The video that allowed them to get into final show had been recorded in Bauyrzhan's house using a camera.

Our compatriot Dina who lives in Italy was interested in the project too. Participation in the project gave her another opportunity to visit Almaty.

KazNTU student Katya Boleeva has been keen on music since childhood. Despite the start of the school year, she found the time to participate in the contest.

Lilian Jade who has been living in Almaty for 10 years and performing in a band HarmonicBliss put up a good show on stage. Even though she did not finish in top-3, but thanks to audience vote got an individual gift, a personal website.

Zhangir Nurmagambetov has already won a musical competition "Proryv" ("Breakthrough"), but this time was defeated by other contestants.

Professional dancer and singer Oleg Lozovoy had lost his voice during a rehearsal. A question about his participation in the contest arose and doctors had forbidden him to perform, but in spite of all this his will power did not let him leave the stage.

Nargiza Demekul was representing Astana. It was a strike of luck that had brought her on stage. She had met a director of a band Jewel and she became a lead vocalist.

Out of all Kazakhstani cities, young people from Karaganda showed the greatest interest towards the project. Aidana Maksutova, a finance student, announced from the stage that she had decided to become a singer since then.

Unlike the other contestants, Love band vocalist Balzhan Akylbayeva is a professional singer.

Daniyar Abdrakhmanov is a lawyer. He dedicates his free time to music.

Former vocalist of Bubliki band Mukhtar Otali got his second wind. "El-Arna" channel promised to air his future music video.

Anuar Syrybayev took the third place for an art song.

And having gained confidence he is now planning to try himself in the next X-factor show.

Son Pascal from London became on of the favourite by spectators. It was the first time for the funny guy of Italian origin so far from his homecountry, England.

Sabina Shamsed is from Tajikistan. She found out about the competition accidentally from her friends who live in Almaty. They just ordered her to make a video and send to the contest. It was a real surprise for her to have been invited to the final show. And it was not in vain as Sabina won the competition and got the main prize, a car Hyundai i10.
